Pál Fodor, Acting Director General of the Research Centre for the Humanities of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (MTA BTK) and Péter Farbaky, Director General of Budapest History Museum signed an Agreement of Cooperation on March 31, 2014. The two institutions (from the MTA BTK part, especially the Institute of History, Institute of Archeology and Institute of Art History) have had cooperation for decades in the research of important sites and events of the Hungarian medieval history, including organizing conferences and exhibitions together.

With this agreement valid for a five-year period, this cooperation will be systematically planned, organized and coordinated by the two institutes, with joint research projects, conferences, exhibitions, and publications of the common research results. Joint projects include actual research topics with interdisciplinary approach and cooperation of researchers of different academic fields, and mutually free access for the research fellows to the collections and facilities of the two institutes.
The latest result of this cooperation is an open access online database about the historic and art monuments of the Castle of Buda, now part of the World Heritage. It shows the history of the site, the Castle Hill from prehistory to the present, and gives detailed and richly illustrated description about the art monuments, the medieval fortresses and the Royal Palace of Buda with old drawings, paintings and engravings (from the collection of Budapest History Museum). It also presents the interesting historic streets, buildings and squares of Buda Castle from the viewpoint of history, art history, archaeology and architecture with old pictures and present photos, too. This online database of architectural and municipal history of Buda Castle is designed not only for researchers but mainly for the general public in Hungary and abroad.
