This sourcebook contains the diplomatic correspondence of the envoys who stayed at the court of Louis II, King of Hungary and Bohemia, between the summer of 1521 and the beginning of 1526, on behalf of Holy Roman Emperor Charles V of Habsburg and his brother, Archduke Ferdinand I.
The diplomats witnessed a crucial period in Central Europe, the years preceding the Battle of Mohács. The series of despatches, letters and their enclosures, written in Latin by Andrea dal Burgo and his successor Johann Schneitpeck, with some supplementary reports by Antonio de’ Conti, Sigmund Herberstein and other envoys, are available in full in this critical edition.
