With the help of researchers from the Hungarian Prehistory Research Group of the Institute of History of the ELKH Research Centre for the Humanities (BTK) and the Department of Hungarian Prehistory and Conquest Period Archaeology at the Pázmány Péter Catholic University, the popular history film In the Saddle, on Horseback – The Art of War of the Conquest-Era Magyars has been produced at the Digitális Legendárium studio.
The 28-minute film presents the latest research findings in the field in a comprehensible manner, and an English version is currently available, with a Russian version to be released soon.
The filming was carried out with the involvement of Hungarian heritage preservation groups that have the most authentic period-accurate equipment. Based on the results of archaeological and scientific heritage preservation studies related to the Hungarian conquest of the Carpathian Basin, the film offers a journey through time, inviting viewers to gain an insight into how the Hungarians of the conquest era lived, fought and what material culture they had, including everyday, festive, and military objects.
The work presents the latest research findings in the field in an easy-to-understand way that can also be used in public education, precisely identifying the fundamental archaeological and historical sources. The film has already been viewed by 112,000 people in the past three weeks on the Digitális Legendárium YouTube channel.
