One of the chief endeavours of this book is to make some results of the Hungarian historiography dealing with the 16th century available for international scholarship. While the achievements of the Hungarian Turkologists generally reach the wider public, due to the international character of their field of studies, the accumulated knowledge of „ordinary” historians studying mostly „national” subjects could not become common property since their works had rarely been translated into foreign languages. Nevertheless, national historiography can clarify important details and add considerably to the better understanding of the political and military events of the Süleymanic era.
